How to Walk a Stubborn Dog
Got a stubborn pup who refuses to follow your lead on walks?
There are a few reasons your dog is giving you a hard time during walks, some of these can include:
- Being new to the experience of a leash and needing to grow accustomed to it
- Lack of socialization during the dog’s early years
- Unwilling to leave the excitement of the dog park, other dogs or human friends
When dealing with behavioral problems like these there are a few simple steps you can take to ease your dog out of its bad habits.
For starters, you’ll want to avoid pulling on the leash – this will only create a tug-of-war between you and your dog.
It’s advised to be patient if your dog stops suddenly, don’t try and force them to move if they don’t want to.
Always keep a relaxed demeanor and praise them for good behavior.
If your dog continues to be difficult during walks you might want to consider taking them to a trainer.
