Why You Shouldn’t Feed Bread To Ducks
It may be tempting to feed the ducks in the pond.
But if you want what’s best for them, you’ll refrain from giving them bread.
Bread doesn’t have much nutritional value to ducks. They might happily eat the bread you throw in their direction, but they’re unknowingly eating junk food.
You may be surprised to know that bread is high in sugar. Eating too much of it can lead to malnutrition or obesity in both humans and animals.
While it may not immediately harm the ducks, the long-term effects of feeding them junk are undoubtedly adverse.
Feeding the ducks can also lead to pollution. People throw too much bread into the water and not all of it is eaten. The rotting bread then lingers in the water and creates lots of algae that disrupt the plant growth of the ecosystem.
Giving the animals food can also lead to them getting too used to humans. While this sounds great, it can lead to aggression from the animal and be harmful to both the animal and any people around them.
If you just can’t resist feeding the birds, opt for seeds, plants, grapes, and oats.
